Our first round of research will measure students’ current reading age in addition to their interest in reading. After the Kindles have been deployed we will measure the impact that the devices have on the learners’ reading behaviour.

Learners will have daily access to the Kindles in the school library, under the supervision of librarian and English teacher Claire Wilson. In addition to library access, there will be in-class use during Mike Barnett’s dedicated literature classes.

In order to study the impact of the Kindles on literacy levels, the pilot phase of the eLibrary Project will focus exclusively on the Grade 11 class at St Francis College. Once the pilot study has concluded at the end of September 2012 the devices will remain in the care of the school for use by learners in other grades and for possible further research.
