Research

Our research will evaluate the impact that Kindle eBook readers have on a class of Grade 11 students at St Francis College over the course of a year (July 2012 – June 2013). Through the generous support of our donors, we have secured a Kindle for each of the sixty children in the class.

Our research will measure students’ current reading age in addition to their interest in reading before they are exposed to the devices. This will be used as a benchmark to measure the impact that the devices have on the learners’ reading ability and behaviour.

Learners will have daily access to the Kindles in the school library, under the supervision of librarian and English teacher Claire Wilson. In addition to library access, there will be in-class use during Mike Barnett’s dedicated literature classes.

Once the study has concluded the devices will remain in the care of the school for use by learners in other grades and for possible further research.

Below are two videos of students at St Francis College discussing their views about the eLibrary Project.
